Serbia or Cyprus: company and residence compared

Since 1 January 2026 Cyprus taxes company profit at 15%, the same as Serbia. What still separates them is the EU passport question, the cost of getting residence through a company, and what you pay to keep the company running.

When Cyprus makes more sense

If you need an EU company, EU directives on dividends and royalties, or you will pay out most profits to yourself as a non-resident, Cyprus is a strong choice. It also works well for holding structures with an established adviser.

When Serbia makes more sense

  • You don't have €200,000 to put in. In Cyprus residence through a company needs an investment, an office and a high salary. In Serbia your own company with a real activity is the basis, and the whole route costs a fraction of that.
  • You want to live where you work, at lower cost. Rents and salaries in Belgrade are well below Nicosia and Limassol.
  • Banking privacy. Cyprus exchanges under CRS as an EU member. Serbia does not yet. FATCA and normal bank checks apply in Serbia, and you declare income where you are tax resident.

Many clients combine them: a Cypriot company for EU clients and a Serbian company as the base for residence. We work with your Cypriot adviser on the Serbian side.

Questions people ask

Is Cyprus still a low-tax country in 2026?

Cyprus raised corporate tax to 15% from 1 January 2026. Dividends paid to non-residents are still generally not taxed in Cyprus.

Can I get residence in Cyprus just by owning a company?

No. The usual route is a company of foreign interest, with a €200,000 investment, a real office and a salary of at least €2,500 a month. In Serbia your own company with a real activity is the basis.

How much does the Serbian route cost?

Company and Belgrade address €850, Visa D €550 and residence €850 per person, plus state costs. Details on our packages page.

A few lines are enough. Every message is read by our lawyer, and the first written reply is free.

  1. You send the form. WhatsApp opens with your message already written. This website stores nothing.
  2. We reply, usually the same business day. If something is missing we ask four things: citizenship, where you live and pay tax now, what the business or income is, and when you want to start.
  3. You get a written plan with fixed fees before any work begins. If we think a bank is unlikely to say yes, or Serbia is the wrong choice for you, you hear it then.
